If i am stumped, I take a few minutes out to eat or drink something and relax by looking out of the window. Five minutes later, I feel capable to have another run at the problem.

Some people find that playing one of the games that comes with most types of Windows for fifteen minutes helps a lot, but I prefer to stay productive so I just switch jobs for a while. Like most people in the West these days, I have a broadband connection that is ‘always on’, so email is coming in all the time too.

If I am having a problem with something and the answer just will not come, I switch over to Outlook and read and reply to a couple of emails. I find that taking my mind off the immediate problem for a time helps me to refocus, and I have not lost any time because I have to go through the mail at some time in any case.

My Journey To End Tobacco

For the majority of my adult life I have been a smoker. I don’t remember exactly when I began to smoke. To me it is not exactly a red-letter day that I wish to enshrine in my personal memory space.

I guess I must have been around eighteen. This is actually the age in most countries and cultures that a person becomes a grownup; a responsible and mature individual who should really know what is good and what’s bad.

Well, I started to smoke. I fell madly in love with Lady Nicotine and succumbed to her nefarious charms. This affair has lasted for almost a lifetime.

However, I have recently realized that I want out of a relationship that is not really good for me. Metaphors aside, I am now determined to quit smoking. I am making active efforts in that direction.

I’ve not been able to quit cold turkey. Abandoning smoking isn’t as easy as it sounds. At least for me personally it has not been a cakewalk, as for quite a while I used to be in a denial mode and to have my cake and eat it too.

It all recently started after i chose to adopt a jogging regimen, as I wanted to shed pounds. There is a small yet steep hill right in the heart of the jogging course that i frequent. I simply couldn’t quite negotiate the hill. I was huffing and puffing all over the place by the point I arrived at the top and usually had to stop to gather my breath.

The irony of it struck me that I was going over the hill but was incapable to make it over that hill. The jogging routine had shaken not just stagnant tissue and muscle but also my conscience. I was beginning to make some progress, but that hill bothered me.

A little goes a long way was never as obvious to me as once i took up jogging in an attempt to kick the habit. I blundered on. I was determined to make a difference. It was a good 3 months before I could negotiate that hill without almost collapsing and heading down on my knees.

My efforts began to pay off! I started to feel better about my body and myself. I was breathing, sleeping and eating far better. I haven’t been capable of quitting smoking yet! But I am working at it! Everydaythere are a variety of battles I win once i refuse myself a smoke. There are battles which i lose too. The war remains on. I’m sure I will win. Someday I’ll give up smoking. I simply hope it isn’t too late once i finally manage to quit!
